Woody Harrelson's Role in "The Hunger Games"

Woody Harrelson played the role of Haymitch Abernathy in the "The Hunger Games" film series.

Haymitch Abernathy was the second winner of the Hunger Games from District 12, winning 23 years before Katniss Everdeen.

Woody Harrelson was cast in the role of Haymitch Abernathy in the 2012 film adaptation of Suzanne Collins' novel "The Hunger Games." Harrelson reprised the role in three sequels: "Catching Fire" (2013), "Mockingjay – Part 1" (2014), and "Mockingjay – Part 2" (2015). Haymitch is a mentor to Katniss Everdeen, the protagonist of the series, and a former winner of the Hunger Games. He is known for his alcoholism and cynical outlook on life, but he is also a skilled strategist and a loyal friend.

Harrelson's performance as Haymitch was praised by critics, and he was nominated for a Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy for his role in "Catching Fire." Haymitch is a complex and flawed character, but Harrelson's portrayal made him one of the most popular characters in the "The Hunger Games" franchise.
